Ernsthaft bedrohlich wirken sie dennoch nicht, eher komisch. Ein groteskes Gejohle scheint von den einsamen Monstern und Wüsteneien auszugehen. Aidas Bareikis schafft seine Gebilde zur Gänze aus "objet trouvé"-Materialien: vergiftungsgefährdender Techno-Abfall, Motorradteile, Sci-Fi-Masken aus Kunststoff, Dispersion, Salz, Säure, Sprühschaum, geschmolzenes Wachs, meist in farbiger Morbidität. Er wählt Ramsch nach bizarrer Optik, den Versatzstücken haftet aber auch die Aura der Grausamkeit in Nutzen oder Herstellung an. Mit einem Hauch von alchemistischer Besessenheit bearbeitet der Künstler sein Ausgangsmaterial mit Feuer, Druck, Licht, Chemie, organischen Substanzen. Dass Geschichte unter der Oberfläche weiter gärt scheint ein durchgängiger Aspekt in Bareikis' Arbeit. Er sammelt Anachronismen und transformiert sie in ein Tableau des orchestrierten Chaos. Der Künstler analysiert den Müll der Konsumgesellschaft, den Verfall der Umwelt, die Aufweichung philosophischer und emotionaler Werte. Er visualisiert Fegefeuer, situiert im Dualismus zwischen Exzess und Gewissen. Und er bekennt sich zu seiner Aufgabe als Künstler, nicht nur Werke zu schaffen, die das Auge erfreuen, sondern vorrangig jene Monster zu darzustellen, die die Zivilisation selbst erschafft. More comic in their effect than truly threatening, a howl of grotesque jubilation seems to emanate from his solitary monsters and wastelands. Aidas Bareikis assembles his pictures from objets trouvés: toxic techno waste, motorcycle components, plastic sci-fi masks, emulsion, salt, acids, sprayed foam, melted wax, principally in the hue of morbidity. He selects his junk for its bizarre visuals, objects whose production and use have retained an aura of cruelty. With a whiff of alchemic obsession, Bareikis subjects his raw materials to the effects of fire, pressure, light, chemicals and organic substances. That history continues to bloom beneath the surface appears to be a universal quality of Bareikis' work. He collects anachronisms and transforms them into a tableau of orchestrated chaos. The artist analyses the trash of consumer society, the deterioration of the environment and the undermining of philosophical and emotional values. Much more than the creation of works that please the eye, Bareikis sees the task of his artistic practice as the representation of the very monsters civilisation itself has created.
