 The Other, (detail) 2003 colored ink and woodstain on paper, 24 x 84 inchess Ati Maier The Return Ati Maier's works on paper comprise a montage of fantastical and seemingly familiar imagery - hyper - saturated chromatic visions - which initially appear abstract, before coming into focus as a surfeit of activity occupying multiple dimensions simultaneously. These impossible images are married by Maier's deft handling of her medium. In one panel of "The Other" (2003) a fiery red and yellow molten sphere blasts through horizontally, trailing pink, green and blue streamers, while a steaming landscape silhouetted against a red horizon floats above, amid a dazzling field of imagery. Maier was born in Munich, Germany, studied visual art in New York and, later, Vienna, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
