Barrie Cooke

This year marks Barrie Cookes 75th birthday and the exhibition of new paintings at the Kerlin Gallery represents a tour de force by this pre-eminent Irish artist.

Many of Cookes favourite themes reoccur in this body of work including rock formations, water pollution and most spectacularly the female nude. Cooke returns once more, to the "nude" inspired by the works of Rubens and Rodin creating perhaps a number of his own masterpieces for this time honoured genre.

Barrie Cooke has exhibited widely throughout Europe, the US and Canada. Major retrospectives include shows in the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin in 1986, the Haags Gemeentemuseum, The Hague in 1992, and LAC, Perpignan, France in 1995. His work is represented in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Ulster Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Haags Gemeentemuseum and in many other public and private collections worldwide. In 2003 a major retrospective exhibition took place at the Royal Hibernian Academy Gallery, Dublin.
