Carey Maxon
anima mundi

We are pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Carey Maxon's works on paper. Maxon's lush, introspective work develops out of a desire to make tangible her impressions of experience. These impressions are, of course, very subjective but her interpretation of them has a resonance and clarity.

"These drawings are about systemizing impulse. They are observations of internal dynamics. For me, life is not linear. These drawings are optimistic in nature. Because I am so impressed with every fleeting instant, I make a flat piece (drawing) which bombards me as does each moment. They are detailed because life is detailed. There are the architectural shapes around us, the movements of other people, the quick thoughts, feelings and impulse" (Maxon, 2004).

In her free-associative, highly nuanced response to intrinsic observations, and with her deft drawing ability, she exposes us to a lyrical, non-linear view of the abstract.
