Cordy Ryman
Room Project

Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery is pleased to present "Room Project" by Cordy Ryman.

In "Room Project," Ryman addresses the architecture of the gallery's project space, specifically three variations on the room's corners. Ryman's site-specific sculptures take the space's volume, floor, wall and ceiling as tangible sources for exploring abstraction. Construction materials such as 2x4s are combined and painted to form structures that intersect and alter the room's contours and planes.

Reflected color and shadow create shifting relationships among subtly undulating forms, revealing a human aspect of postminimalist seriality. Processes of stacking and accumulation are evident in the large works as well as in small two-dimensional works interspersed between the corner pieces. Playful in their fabrication, the works are made of a wide range of industrial material such as plastic, Mylar, rivets and fluorescent paint in a myriad of geometric patterns.

Ryman (b. 1971) received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts. His work was included in "Greater New York, at P.S. 1 / MoMA in 2006. Ryman lives and works in New York.
