 Untitled (Vegetation Room VII), 2000 Resin and bronze powder 98 1/2 x 72 3/4 x 86 inches Cristina Iglesias Cristina Iglesias's first exhibition in Ireland, brings together numerous sculptural and architectural pieces which fuse together traditions and techniques from architecture, theatre, printmaking and photography. A native of Spain, Iglesias was the youngest artists ever to receive an exhibition at New York's Guggenheim Museum. Her highly original work has evolved in the context of European and American sculpture during the 1980s and '90s, when a generation of artists expanded the object of sculpture into the realm of installation. Iglesias choreographs space, using materials such as cement, alabaster, resin and silkscreen, to present sensual and evocative settings. Giant ceilings and canopies fly through the air, intricate Moorish screens wrap round into labyrinths, and the walls of a room are transformed into a forest. Iglesias, who lives in Madrid, will travel to Dublin to install the exhibition, creating juxtapositions that work in dialogue with the specific architecture and location of IMMA. This international travelling exhibition is organised by Fundação de Serralves, Museu de Arte Contemporânea Porto, Portugal and co produced in collaboration with the Whitechapel, London, and the Irish Musuem of Modern Art, Dublin. The exhibition is curated by freelance curator, Michael Tarantino. The exhibition is supported by Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Spain, ESB International and Culture 2000.
