Dan Bayles

For our first exhibition in our new location at 945 Chung King Rd, Chung King Project is very excited to host the debut solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Dan Bayles (born in 1977).

Dan Bayles will present a series of paintings, which further his exploration of the relationship between art and architecture. Each painting is derived from the US plans for the new US embassy in Badgad, currently under construction (www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N09435348.htm).

Working in both paint and collage, Dan Bayles' canvases create abstractions that encapsulate the dissonance, and excitement of a potential metropolitan landscape, echoing the work of Constant and Piranesi.

The overall results in unified, balanced compositions on canvas, while supporting distinct areas of specific details. Hence, a closer look reveals impressively intricate surfaces, layered with many different textures of paint, and collage elements.

Dan Bayles recently graduated from his MFA at UC Irvine. Past group exhibitions included "Without Sun" curated by Carol Ann Kloranides at Chung King Project, LA and Christopher Grimes gallery, Santa Monica, and ABSTRACTION at Michael Kohn Gallery, West Hollywood.
