Dearraindrop
The Future of the Future

Kavi Gupta Gallery is pleased to present the first solo multi-media exhibition in Chicago by Dearraindrop.

Dearraindrop is Joe Grillo, Laura Grant and Billy Grant, three artists who have known each other for over ten years, and live and make work together in Virginia Beach. They each collaborate on paintings, clothing, animation, installations, and videos while also maintaining their individual styles. Their work describes a storm of digested and regurgitated imagery from a collective consciousness. Images born from mass media, art history, old cartoons, videogames, science fiction, and everything else that crosses their path culminate in maniacal doodles and maximalist installations.

This major show of all new work will encompass the gallery's three exhibition areas. The main gallery space at Kavi Gupta will be packed with twenty fluorescent, collaged paintings from the future as well as a ten foot long mural. Their paintings describe an afterlife battle between Disney and Hieronymus Bosch; explosions of color, sound, and pattern in a meltdown of myth, symbols and archetypes. Duck sculptures will also make an appearance, as well as the artists themselves in a performance during the opening reception. A series of black and white drawings described by the artists as "apocalyptical optical illusions, Pop art to end all pop art", will take over the gallery's project room and a new unseen video will also be debuted in the gallery's front room. "The Future of the Future" is everything everywhere, nauseating and beautiful, calculated and unpredictable.

Dearraindrop have exhibited solo shows at Deitch Projects in NY (2004), John Connelly Presents in NY (2003), and HaNNa (2004) in Tokyo, Japan. This past December they presented their installation "Riddle of the Sphinx" at Art Basel Miami Beach as part of the Art Loves Design Party in the Design District. Dearraindrop created a site-specific all-sensory long-term installation at P.S.1, NY. Their work has been hailed widely in the press including reviews and articles in The New York Times and The Art Newspaper.
