![]() Faisal Abdu' Allah The Garden of Eden "The Garden of Eden" is a powerful architectural installation that explores issues of privilege, exclusion and voyeurism. This major new work is Faisal Abdu' Allah's most ambitious project to date, and is the result of a significant collaboration between the London-based artist and celebrated architect David Adjaye. "The Garden of Eden" is a multifaceted, uncompromising structure. It contains separate spaces that divide visitors with differing genetic attributes. The installation engages the spectator in a charged physical experience, compelling the viewer to consider the differences between privileged and unprivileged space. Furthermore, "The Garden of Eden" proposes complex and critical questions: Where does exclusion begin and end? To what extent can we determine the cultural, political and social environments in which we exist? And how do genetics inform rights of access? "The Garden of Eden" represents a long overdue point of recognition for Faisal Abdu' Allahs dynamic practice and this is his most significant solo exhibition to date. The project also represents a new and important collaboration between Faisal Abdu' Allah, Adjaye Associates, Chisenhale Gallery, Autograph (Association of Black Photographers) and Aspex Gallery. Faisal Abdu' Allah was born in London in 1969. He attended Central St. Martin's College of Art, London, Massachusetts College of Art, Boston and the Royal College of Art, London. Previous exhibitions include "Veil" (New Art Gallery, Walsall, 2003 and inIVA tour); Horniman Museum (solo, 2001); The Agency Contemporary Art (solo, 1999-2002); "Ecce Homo", Kunsthal Rotterdam (2000); "LKW", OK Centre for Contemporary Art Linz (1999); "The 90s": Family of Man, Forum de l'Art Contemporain, Luxembourg, (1998).
