 zu vermieten #04, 2008 C-Print Federico Maddalozzo zu vermieten Click for English text Federico Maddolozzo zeigt uns, wie Kunst heutzutage mit der Thematik von Licht und Farbe auf kluge und spannende Weise umgehen kann. Genau wie die Alten Meister oder die Impressionisten fasziniert ihn das Sichtbare der Welt, die Oberfläche - er aber ist kein Maler. Nicht dem Handwerklichen gilt sein Interesse, sondern dem Phänomen, und zu dessen Untersuchung benutzt er Farbe in Form von farbigen Objekten und das Element Licht als Medium der Darstellung. Seine Werke können als Versuchsanordnungen beschrieben werden, mit denen er uns vor Augen führt, dass Farbe eine sehr vage, unbestimmbare Sache ist. Auf die Wirkung eines Farbtons haben verschiedene Faktoren Einfluss: neben dem Licht sind es die umgebenden Farben und der Raum, in dem die Farbe erscheint. Gleichzeitig beeinflusst die Farbe selbst auch die Umgebung. Beides ist aneinander gekoppelt, genauso wie Sprache nicht vom Kontext gelöst werden kann, der Kontext aber auch nicht von der Sprache. Und alles ist zusätzlich im stetigen Wandel begriffen. Kodes, seien die farblicher oder sprachlicher Natur, sind denn auch weder universell noch ewig gültig, ihr Gebrauch und ihre Bedeutung bestimmt von individuellen, nationalen, kulturellen Moden und Konventionen. Aber welche Bedeutung nehmen sie an, wenn man sie an einen anderen Ort verpflanzt? Sylvia Rüttimann Federico Maddalozzo, 1978 in S. Vito al Tagliamento, Italien, geboren, hat an der Accademia delle belle Arti in Bologna studiert. 2003 gewann er ein Stipendium der Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, wo er auch ausstellte. Andere Ausstellungen hatte er u.a. in der Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna (La giovane Italia, 2007), im Ausstellungsort Viafarini in Mailand, einer der wichtigsten Institute für junge zeitgenössische Kunst in Italien, und der Galerie Piacentia arte in Piacenza. 2004 nahm er am 10. Kurs für bildende Kunst an der Fondazione Antonio Ratti teil, der von Jimmie Durham geleitet wurde. Federico Maddalozzo lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. As with the Old Masters or the impressionists it is the visible of the surface that fascinates him, although he is no painter. His interest does not lie in craft or skill, but the phenomenon, for whose analysis he uses colour in the form of painted objects and the element of light as media of depiction. His works can be described as trial set-ups to prove to us that colour is a vague, indeterminable thing indeed. Different factors influence the impression we get of the tone of a colour. Besides light it is ambient colour and space, at the same time colour also influences the space it appears in. Both these things are inextricably bound up with each other, just as language and context are inseparable notions, and what is more, everything is subject to continous change. Codes therefore, no matter whether they relate to colour or language, are neither universal nor constant, their usage and meaning determined by individual, national and cultural fashions and conventions. But what meaning do they assume when transplanted to a different place? Sylvia Rüttimann Federico Maddalazzo was born in S. Vito al Tagliamento (Italy) in 1978.
