 Rolf Iseli: Berner Züpfe, 1971 Farblithographie, Lithography in colour Graphische Sammlung der ETH, Zürich Collection of Prints and Drawings of ETH Flugstunde Schweizerische Künstlergraphik der 60er und 70er Jahre Click for English text Unter dem Titel "Flugstunde" setzt die Ausstellung fort, was vor einem Jahr als "Fahrt ins zwanzigste Jahrhundert" begonnen wurde, nämlich eine Revue schweizerischer Künstlergraphik seit 1900. Der Titel der Ausstellung ist einer Graphik von Markus Raetz von 1970 entliehen. Die Komposition spielt mit vielleicht fliegenden Objekten und ihren Schatten - es geht dabei wohl ums Sehen selbst. Dazu gehören dann auch Fragen der bildlichen Darstellung von Zeit und Bewegung. Dies - und überhaupt Prozessuales auf der Bildfläche sichtbar zu machen - nannten die Verantwortlichen des dritten "Salon de la jeune gravure suisse" in Genf 1971 jedenfalls als eine tendenzielle Gemeinsamkeit der ausgestellten Graphikblätter. Eine zweite war die starke Präsenz posterähnlicher Drucke. Das stilistische Spektrum der künstlerischen Produktion der Zeit reicht von allerlei Spielarten mehr oder weniger gegenständlicher oder erzählerischer Formulierungen zum Informel lyrischer oder expressiver Bilder. Die Künstlergraphik wird eigenwillig seither. Die Blattgrössen überschreiten das "Standardformat", die Farbe übernimmt die Hauptrolle. Der Umgang mit Drucktechniken wird probiert und kombiniert: herkömmliche, einfallsreich angewendete sowie unterschiedlichste und widersprüchlichste Verfahren - technisch wie ästhetisch ungewohnt. Diesen machmal waghalsigen Unternehmungen soll der Titel der Ausstellung gerecht werden. The title of the exhibition is taken from a print by Markus Raetz of 1970. The composition plays upon flying objects and their shadows - it is about the process of pictorial representation of time and motion. These issues in fact, the visualisation of processes on the picture plane, generally are a common concern of graphic art of the time. A second one is the strong influence of posterlike prints. The stylistic spectrum of artistic production extends from experiments in more or less figurative, object-oriented or expressive forms to abstract structures and textures. In its formal and thematic expansion, artists' prints of the 60s and 70s constitute the most innovative works in the genre. Since then the graphic arts have become an independent mode of expression. The size of individual sheets surpasses standard formats; colour becomes a main component. In dealing with printing techniques, ever new possibilities are being tried or combined: conventional techniques are imaginatively applied and expanded to include new technology, often irrespective of more traditional modes, frequently with technically and aesthetically unusual and surprising results. It is to these sometimes risky experiments to which the title "Flugstunde" is dedicated. March 3 - April 23, 2004 |
