 Martin McMurray: In Conversation with the Sea (Early Years), 2003 acrylic on paper on panel, 20 x 24 inches Fresh Direct Paolo Arao, Matt Connors, Franklin Evans, Jenny Laden, Martin McMurray, Jon Rappleye Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present "Fresh Direct", a group show featuring works by six gallery artists: Paolo Arao, Matt Connors, Franklin Evans, Jenny Laden, Martin McMurray and Jon Rappleye. Paolo Arao's portraits depict his friends in everyday, unguarded moments. Jenny Laden's double self- portraits in red and white are both revealing and quizzical. Martin McMurray's narrative paintings seem to ask the question: what was the beginning of the story and what happens next? Jon Rappleye's combinations of animals, plant forms and stars create their own psychedelic settings. In Franklin Evans' paintings, figures wander through rollicking dreamscapes. Matt Connors' kaleidoscopic paintings of drooping forms and fonts become abstract patterns evoking painted collage. Each artist uses strong color and silhouetted forms to make paintings that have immediate impact, but invite further looking and viewing.
