GEEP
Atopia Projects #3.99

Critical Art Ensemble, Sabine Bitter, Jeff Derksen & Helmut Weber, John Giglio, Andrew Jones, Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) & Katarina Matiasek, Pia Rönicke, John Sparagana, Tercerunquinto

Curated by Atopia Projects, "GEEP" is an idiosyncratic compendium of hybridity, transmutation, and hijacked function.

"GEEP" takes its name from the animal (created through the combination of goat and sheep embryos) produced in the 1980s by researchers in Cambridge, UK.

In propositional and concrete ways, the projects in this exhibition engage a range of media to modify, combine, and re-present artifacts, forms, commercial images, architectural spaces, ideas, and events. The new instances maintain a provocative openness that resists separation and deference to an ideal. In this zone, idea is at once functionally propositional while being abstract; in an instant, the result may be simultaneously troubling, humorous, functional, absurd, serious, poetic, and political.

The work in this exhibition collectively suggests an effort to find and chart a set of affective and effective relations between the threads of lived and planned conditions.

Exhibition: November 18 - November 28, 2004
