Nei suoi spazi sono infatti presentate due installazioni del programma video "Play Forward: #Psychasthenia 2+2" del norvegese Knut Åsdam e "The Dark Side" del francese Pierre Coulibeuf. L'intento di questa collaborazione è quello di dar luogo ad un dialogo tra il linguaggio video e la sua relazione con la terza dimensione; dialogo che andrà arricchito e reso più complesso anno dopo anno. Nell'era contemporanea non si può non considerare l'installazione video come una sorta di prolungamento del cinema puro all'interno dello spazio. La nostra idea è quindi mettere a fuoco alcuni aspetti del rapporto tra l'artista video contemporaneo e lo spazio: quello immaginario del cinema e la sua traduzione nello spazio reale. Entrambi gli artisti scelti quest'anno hanno sviluppato un simile approccio all'interpretazione dello spazio partendo dall' architettura come elemento strutturante celato nel linguaggio cinematografico. "#Psychasthenia 2+2" è la seconda tappa di una serie di lavori sulle architetture e sulla complessità del tessuto urbano degli anni novanta. Il titolo è ispirato da un testo ora quasi dimenticato pubblicato negli anni trenta sulla rivista surrealista "MInotaure" e scitto da Roger Caillois. Nel testo l'autore paragona il mimetismo degli insetti ad una condizione psico-schizofrenica caratterizzata da una "depersonalizzazione da assimilazione allo spazio circostante". Tutta la serie Psychasthenia è basata sull'esasperazione dei linguaggi spontanei delle architetture metropolitane e mette in antitesi l'assenza dell'individuo con le luccicanti strutture abitative la cui identità scompare in un schizofrenico sistema di segni. L'istallazione "The Dark Side" è stata creata partendo da "Pavillon Noir", la nuova opera in formato 35mm di Pierre Coulibeuf, adattatamento di una coreografia specialmente concepita dal coreografo Angelin Preljocaj. L'installazione, costituita da due video proiezioni e quattro fotografie, si inscrive in un progetto di trasversalità che mette in relazione l'architettura, la coreografia, il cinema, la fotografia e l'istallazione video. Essa tenta di produrre uno spazio Altro, uno spazio "ai confini" (delle discipline e delle categorie artistiche, ma anche dei generi dell'immagine in movimento), dove gli individui e gli oggetti si trasformano, cambiano di statuto e d'identità diventando doppioni o immagini riflesse della realtà. L'indeterminazione diviene la caratteristica primaria dell'immagine. Questa realtà altra, è quella che rende sporadicamente visibili le forze oscure che abitano l'individuo: il mondo pulsionale, versante oscuro (o dark side) dell'individuo, provoca dei bruschi disturbi del comportamento, multipli incidenti, improvvise rotture della continuità narrativa. La reltà del film è al tempo stesso familiare ed estranea. I personaggi, come piccoli demoni, parodiano con brio gli stereotipi della fiction cinematografica o dei film telelevisivi (sitcoms, etc.). "Ballads from our invisibles parks" è il titolo della selezione video curata da Andrea Lissoni. L'idea centrale di questo ciclo è che la musica domina il processo creativo di buona parte dell'arte video attuale. Alcuni tra i più interessanti artisti rappresentanti questo fenomeno sono invitati a presentare uno o più lavori. Andrea Lissoni è uno dei massimi esperti di video arte in Italia. Professore presso il Politecnico e l'Accademia di Belle arti di Brera a Milano, è stato uno dei fondatori e il co-direttore di Netmage, festival internazionale di digital art (www.netmage.it) e del network Xing (www.xing.it) La rada ha inoltre invitato giona Bernardi a realizzare un'animazione per introdurre il pubblico della nostra esposizione. Il lavoro di questo artista ticinise si è focalizzato sul fumetto underground e recentemente sulla video animazione. La video installazione presentata a la rada è un mantra paranoico, le immagini si muovono ad un ritmo incalzante ed epilettico che costringe lo spettatore ad uno stato di ipnosi. Ispiratosi all'uso dei messaggi subliminali nella pubblicità l'artista inverte il loro ruolo di questi esaspernadone il potenziale fino ad ottenere una forma introvertita autoreferenziale di comunicazione. Uno dei principali intenti della rada è lo sviluppo di un network di cooperazioni con altri spazi e ugualmente con diversi linguaggi (in questo caso, quello cinematografico). Perciò l'interazione con il Festival del film è una traguardo fondamentale. Two video installations will be presented in la rada exhibition spaces, as part of the festival's video program "Play Forward: #Psychasthenia 2+2" by the Norwich artist Knut Åsdam and "The Dark Side" by the French artist Pierre Coulibeuf. The intention of this collaboration is to open a dialogue between video art and its relation to the third dimension. Today it's difficult to neglect the fact that video installation is becoming an extension of pure cinema inside the real space; the fictional one of the cinema and its translation into the real environment. Both artists are working on the main idea of architecture as a hidden structure of the cinematic language. "#Psychasthenia 2+2" is the second step of a series of works based on an aesthetical exaltation of the complex character of contemporary architecture with all the exploded forms of the actual and chaotic urban landscape. The title is inspired by a text of Roger Caillois published in the thirties in the surrealist magazine "Minotaure". In this text, the author compares the mimicry of some insects to a type of schizophrenic psychic condition characterized as a "depersonalization by assimilation to space". All the cycle "Psychasthenia" is based on the exasperation of the spontaneous languages of the metropolitan architectures and opposes the loss of the individual to the shining structures of the city which identity disappears in a schizophrenic sign system. "The Dark Side" installation has been created starting from the new 35mm film by Pierre Coulibeuf "Pavillon Noir", adapted from a special creation by the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj. The installation is made of two video-projections and 4 photographs. It is part of a cross-disciplinary project that, in this case, brings together architecture, choreography, cinema, photography and video-installation. The work aims to create a space "on the border". The artist plays with the idea of established roles, disciplines, genres or categories of the moving image. Into this game the rhythm play the central role, breaking down the linear perspective of any given object/subject against the narrative structure. The disinclination becomes their main characteristic. This "other" reality is made at times visible by obscure forces in the individual: the drive world, "dark side", causes brusque disturbances to reality, multiple incidents, abrupt breaks of the narrative's flow. The film's reality is at the same time strange and familiar. Like little demons, the characters parody with drive the fictional stereotypes of cinema or films for the television (sitcom, etc.). "Ballads from our invisibles parks" is the title of Andrea Lissoni's video selection. The leading idea of this cycle is that music is dominating the process of today's video works. Some of the most interesting artists representing this phenomenon are invited to present two of their more representative video works. Andrea Lissoni is one of the most italian experts in video art: professor at the Polytechnic School and at the Accademy of Arts in Milan, founder and co-director of the International Festival of Digital Art Netmage (www.netmage.it) and of the network Xing (www.xing.it). La rada also invited Giona Bernardi to realize an animation to introduce the public to the exhibition. The work of this Ticino based artist is focused on underground comix and lately to video animation. The video installation presented in la rada spaces is a paranoiac mantra where images moves with an epileptic rhythm triggering to the public a powerful state of hypnosis. Inspired by the subliminal messages typically used in the advertising practices, the artist inverts the use of this method into an introverted form. One of the primary aims of la rada is the development of a network of co-operations with other art spaces and equally with different art languages (in this instance, cinema).
