 18h Bali Mynah, 2002 Foto: Ernst Moritz, The Hague Henrik Håkansson An Introduction to the Birds Click for English text In früheren Arbeiten galt Henrik Håkansson's (*1968 in Helsingborg) Aufmerksamkeit den eher unspektakulären Verhaltensweisen von kaum wahrgenommenen Insekten oder Kleintieren und freiem Wildwuchs. Die Esslinger Ausstellung rückt nun die Beobachtung exotischer, vom Aussterben bedrohter Vogelarten ins Zentrum. Um den indonesischen Balistar, zum Beispiel, entwickelt Henrik Håkansson ein Werk aus filmischen und akustischen Kreisläufen, Fotoarbeiten und Textdokumenten und etabliert so ein komplexes System künstlerischer Wirklichkeit. Die Strategie der zumeist apparategestützten Beobachtung und Aufführung verhindern jede Form der Naturschwärmerei und thematisieren vielmehr subversiv Überwachungsstrategien in modernen Gesellschaftssystemen. "An Introduction to the Birds" schliesst eine lose Reihe von Projekten in der Villa Merkel ab (Mark Dion, Lois & Franziska Weinberger), die Fragen danach untersuchte, wie wir überhaupt in der Lage sind, ein Bild von Natur zu entwerfen. Die Ausstellung "An Introduction to the Birds" entstand in Kooperation mit dem Bonner Kunstverein und Stichting de Appel in Amsterdam. Sie ist gefördert durch IASPIS. The exposition in Esslingen now puts into perspective the observation of exotic and endangered birds species. Around the Indonesian Balistar, for instance, Henrik Håkansson is developing a composition of cinematic and acoustic circuits, photographs and text documents and thereby establishes a complex system of artistic reality. A strategy of observation mostly supported by machinery and of performance prevents each kind of nature sentimentality and rather picks out subversive controlling policy in modern societies as a central theme. "An Introduction to the Birds" completes an open series of projects in Villa Merkel (Mark Dion, Lois & Franziska Weinberger), which scrutinised the questions if we are basically able to conceptualise a picture of nature.
