Seit Jahrzehnten ist der traditionelle Begriff der Malerei in Bezug auf zeitgenössische Kunst ein dehnbarer Begriff, dem immer neue Facetten hinzugefügt werden. Längst ist Malerei mehr als nur Öl auf Leinwand. Das Gesicht der Malerei wandelte sich extrem seit Künstler begannen, mit neuen Medien zu experimentieren. Neue technische Möglichkeiten sowie die Lust Grenzen zu durchbrechen liessen zahlreiche Künstler wie Bill Viola, Jessica Stockholder oder Jeff Wall in den 80er und 90er Jahren, dazu übergehen, die klassische Malerei zu erweitern oder ganz zu ersetzen. Sie begannen mit Medien wie Film, Video oder Installationen die Malerei auf eine andere Ebene zu transferieren, sich ihr anzunähern, sie zu verfremden oder zu imitieren. Aus der Malerei als Quelle der Inspiration entstanden immer wieder neue spannende Tendenzen, Strömungen und Werkkomplexe. Mit "Imagination Becomes Reality", einem mehrteiligen Ausstellungszyklus, möchte Ingvild Goetz durch Konfrontationen, Gegenüberstellungen und Vergleiche von Kunstwerken die Möglichkeit bieten, in der Auseinandersetzung und Begegnung mit den Werken zeitgenössischer Künstler Malerei in ihren unterschiedlichsten Ausdrucksformen und Techniken zu entdecken. Durch die Konfrontation von Fotografie, Skulptur, Malerei und Video soll versucht werden diese Grenzüberschreitungen aufzuzeigen. So wird für den Betrachtenden das Medium der künstlerischen Arbeit schnell unwichtig und die Parallelen zwischen den verschiedenen Medien umso deutlicher. Der Begriff der Malerei wird quasi aufgebrochen, um eine Annäherung an Malerei im neuen Jahrtausend zu ermöglichen. Jede Ausstellung des Zyklus wird Werkgruppen von drei, vier oder fünf Künstlern und Künstlerinnen aus der Sammlung Goetz vorstellen. Der Zyklus wird mit Arbeiten von Franz Ackermann, Jörg Sasse, Thomas Scheibitz und Tal R eröffnet. Einige von Jörg Sasses Fotografien wirken wie impressionistische Gemälde. Das Werk von Thomas Scheibitz wird, sowohl in der Skulptur als auch in der Malerei, geprägt von Raum greifenden Elementen. Franz Ackermann konfrontiert uns unter anderem auch mit bewegten Bildern, während die Werke von Tal R nur auf den ersten Blick wie typische Malerei anmuten. Zu jeder Ausstellung des Zyklus erscheint eine Publikation mit Abbildungen der ausgestellten Arbeiten und Texten, Interviews und Gesprächen. Der gesamte Zyklus soll zum Abschluss in einem Sammelband dokumentiert werden. Der erste Katalog umfasst ca. 140 Seiten und ca. 80 farbige Abbildungen, deutsch/englisch, ISBN 3-9808063-5-9 und ist im Buchhandel oder über das Museum zu bestellen. With "Imagination Becomes Reality", an exhibition cycle in several parts, Ingvild Goetz would like to offer the opportunity to discover contemporary painting with its diverse forms of expression and techniques through confrontation, contrast and comparison The attempt will be made to present this crossing of frontiers through the comparison of photography, sculpture, painting and video. For the viewer, the medium of the artistic work will quickly become unimportant and the parallels between the different media will become even more apparent. The concept of painting will be virtually opened up to enable an approach to painting in the new millennium. Every exhibition in the cycle will present three, four or five artists from the Goetz Collection. The cycle will be opened with works from Franz Ackermann, Jörg Sasse, Thomas Scheibitz and Tal R. Some of Jörg Sasse's photographs appear as impressionistic paintings. The work from Thomas Scheibitz - sculpture as well as painting - are shaped from room-grasping elements. Franz Ackermann confronts us with moving pictures, among others, while the works from Tal R only appear at first glance like typical paintings. A publication with pictures of the displayed works including texts, interviews and talks will be issued for every exhibition in the cycle. The entire cycle will be documented at closing in an anthology.
