Reflected Decor, 2004 Oil on canvas, 47.5 x 62 inches Jim Richard Décor These interiors offer an open invitation to come on in, but on closer inspection there appears to be little or no means of entrance available. This claustraphobia adds to the tension created by the unrelenting grab bag of art and style (high and low) going on inside. Clashes and contradictions are settled through a rigorous law-andorder painting style that ultimately suspends everything in a state of frozen pop. Richard developed this theme in the seventies, and has seen it through a number of changes. The latest includes experiments with monochrome and with collages that have led to less adherance to gravity-bound, real-world perspective, allowing for forays into abstraction. Elements of art and décor are dealt out freely, without the need to ultimately describe a "room". The exhibition also includes a selection of the collages.
