Kalle Runeson
Bunker Buster - The Shelob's Crib

A Scandinavian social democratic painter?

Kalle Runeson is presenting new works at Henie Onstad kunstsenter. Through paintings, video, drawings, objects and an impressive work directly on the gallery walls Kalle Runeson weaves an intricate comment directed to politics, social history and popular culture with satiric intensions.

Runeson initial goal is to engage the viewer on different levels; this is art that comes with content and a message. Runeson contemplates around what he calls a "Scandinavian social democratic language"- where everyone is included. Kalle Runesons paintings have a raw expression, which among other aspects consist of a vast amount of popular cultural references. His conceptual relationship to painting and installation produces a kind of boys room aesthetic that includes cut outs from cartoons, copies from magazines and mass produced objects.

It is Runesons uniqueness as an artist that makes him interesting and challenging - his expression and content engages since all the references are experienced as something familiar. We are all surrounded by these impressions on a daily basis.

The exhibition is dedicated to Danish photographer and philantrop Jacob Holdt.
