Linda Geary
New Drawings and Paintings

Linda Geary's new paintings and works on paper are compelling abstractions that explore the formal and emotional qualities of color. Geary deposits her inks and paints in the generous, free ranging movements familiar from gestural Abstract Expressionism. Her remarkable palette generates seemingly endless permutations in both watercolor and acrylic, and communicates Geary's conviction that color, along with other formal elements, such as line, shape, and form, is a universal language.

Geary was born in 1960, in Santa Rosa, California. She received a BFA from the University of San Diego (1982), and an MFA from the University of Delaware (1986) in painting. Geary has had solo exhibitions at the Bau Institute, Otranto/NY, Museo Ecologie Nationale, Otranto, Italy (2006) and at Marcel Sitcoske Gallery, San Francisco (2002, 2001). Her work has also been featured in group exhibtions from Black Market Auction, Independent School of Art, San Francisco and Bay Area Bazaar, Pulliam Deffenbaugh Gallery, Portland, Oregon (both 2005) to Bay Area Now 3, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco (2002).
