Luisa Rabbia

Luisa Rabbia was born in Italy; she studied there and started her career achieving much interest and many successes with her sculptures, photographs and performance.

Massimo Audiello will be showing a series of large drawings on photographs and two videos.

Luisa Rabbia's body of work starts with the body. The body is the machine, the tool, the vehicle we travel with, it's through the body that we feel, we love, we think. Her fascination with the body is almost one that an alien would have with our species, but after all aren't we all coming from some other place?

The naked bodies drawn in ball point pen become metaphors for our mind traveling towards symbolic universe, constellations where the human drama is played out like storytelling or comic books, where the dance of love and death seems to be tattooed in the skies like our destinies in our genetic codes.

In a series of drawings done on photographs of the subway train the results of reality/dream juxtaposition remind us how physical reality can trigger the unlimited possibilities of our unconscious psychic life.

The juxtaposition of photographs with drawing in the work on paper is transformed in video/animation coexistence in the video work.

In the "One Way" video a journey trough the New York subway it's transformed in a kind of Dante's spiritual journey.

In the video "Tears and Blood" the artist herself liquefies and disappears through a sink drain. The blue of the water echoes the blue of the sky, it is the body again as the protagonist, the interpreter of this irrepressible desire to disappear, dissolves in a kind of primordial element. It's the ultimate alchemy.
