Installationsansicht in der Galerie staubkohler, Zürich Monica Germann & Daniel Lorenzi Schlehdornhag Click for English text Wir freuen uns sehr, unsere neuen Räume an der Rotwandstrasse 53 mit der zweiten Solo-Ausstellung von Monica Germann und Daniel Lorenzi eröffnen zu dürfen. Im neuen Eingangsbereich der Galerie findet man sich unmittelbar in einer künstlich erschaffenen "Aussenwelt" wieder, deren Elemente Wandzeichnungen, aus Beton geformte Äste und blauviolett glimmende, von der Decke hängende Displays bilden. Auf den Displays laufen verschiedene Computeranimationen, ein Totentanz zum Beispiel oder ein blinzelndes Auge oder eine Maus die auftaucht und wieder verschwindet. Diese kurzen Sequenzen aus der Ideenwelt der Künstler verdichten die erzeugte Stimmung einer verlassenen Welt. Eine ornamentale Membranstruktur trennt diese "Aussenwelt" von der "Innenwelt" im hinteren Teil der Galerie, wo die Künstler mit verschiedenen Medien formale Aspekte von Musikgeräten, Schallplatten und Musikkassetten stilisieren. Nebst kleinformatigen, spielerischen Papierarbeiten sind ein Acrylbild einer Schallplatte und eine Videoprojektion einer sich auf- und zurückspulenden Tonbandkassette zu sehen. Die vom Künstlerduo geschaffenen Aussen- und Innenwelten oszillieren um die Themen Natur und Technik und plädieren für eine wertfreie Interpretation der Begriffe Natur und Technik. Eine strikte Trennung scheint gar nicht möglich und auch gar nicht nötig. Glimmende Displays können als Früchte, schwarze Kabel als Äste oder eine Vinylplatte als Baumstrunk gelesen werden. Letztendlich ist alles Technische aus der Natur hervorgegangen, z.B aus Erdöl oder vermoderten Ästen. Die Übergänge sind fliessend. Der Schlehdorn ist eine Hecke, die am Waldrand wächst, wo der Wald noch nicht Wiese und die Wiese noch nicht Wald ist. This Zurich based artist team has been with the gallery since the very beginning and their exhibition "Schlehdornhag" is their second solo show with us. Germann & Lorenzi have transformed the entrance area of the gallery into an artificially created "outdoors" environment. Two wall drawings, branches made out of concrete that are suspended from the ceilings and small LCD displays shimmering in a translucent blue light form the main elements of this installation. The displays feature short animations such as a blinking eye or a dancing skeleton and enhance a mood that could be taken out of Kubrick's 2001 "Space Odyssey". An ornamental structure divides the "outdoors" from the indoors section in the back of the gallery where paintings, drawings and a video projection deal with music related gadgets such as amplifiers, tapes and vinyl. All work on display in this exhibition either directly or indirectly deals with the topics of nature and the technical. The artists seem to take the position that there are no boundaries between the natural and artificially created objects. Shimmering displays can be interpreted as fruits hanging from a tree, black wires can be read as branches and a vinyl has an astonishing resemblance to a tree trunk. Everything artificial eventually has evolved out of nature such as rotten trees and oil. Schlehdornhag which is the title of this show also serves as a metaphor for this constant flux. Schlehdorn is a hedge plant that grows at the edge of a forest where the forest has stopped being forest but has not yet transformed into something else.
