Die Ausstellung findet parallel zu einer umfassenden Einzelpräsentation von Mariele Neudecker im Künstlerhaus Bethanien statt. Während im Künstlerhaus Bethanien eine Vielzahl von Skulpturen, Fotografien und Videoarbeiten von Mariele Neudecker zu sehen sind, werden in der Galerie zwei große Videoinstallationen präsentiert. Die Videoarbeit "Another Day" zeigt in zwei Projektionen einen Sonnenauf- bzw. Sonnenuntergang, gefilmt an geographisch exakt gegenüberliegenden Punkten der Erde, auf den Azoren und in Australien, so dass der Betrachter das ihm selber nicht mögliche Erlebnis des simultanen Aufgehens und Versinkens der Sonne sieht. "The Land of the Dead" zeigt in eindrucksvoller Weise eine andere Art von simultaner Wahrnehmung. Der Betrachter schaut in übereinanderliegende Bilder, die von einem Heissluftballon aus aufgenommen wurden, projiziert auf Decke und Boden der Galerie. Die Kamera verfolgt den unmerklich entschwebenden Flug des Ballons und zeigt aus der Vogelperspektive heraus die langsam schrumpfende Landschaft zu Füßen der Ballonfahrer. Slums, Hinterhöfe, Wüste, bebaute Felder ziehen langsam kleiner werdend im Bild vorbei, so dass sich der sichere Standpunkt des Betrachters allmählich verliert. Mariele Neudeckers Arbeiten behandeln häufig die klassischen Sujets romatischer Gemälde. Dramatische Bergwelten, nebelverhangene Wälder, Sonnenuntergänge, tosende Seestücke, werden übertragen in dreidimensionale Miniaturmodelle. Diese installiert Neudecker in Tanks, gefüllt mit wässrigen, trüben und farbigen Lösungen, welche die atmosphärischen Verunklärungen des Vorbildes in chemische Reaktionen verwandeln. Während Mariele Neudecker das klassische Tafelbild der Romantik in zeitgenössische Formulierungen transformiert, stellen ihre Werke gleichzeitig Wahrnehmungsvorgänge in Frage. In ihren Videos ebenso wie in ihren Installationen kommt es wortwörtlich zu Verdichtungen: Luft und Atmosphäre werden greifbar, materialisieren sich. Die Eindeutigkeit des Gesehenen verliert sich, es entsteht der Eindruck, in eine Unterwasserwelt zu schauen. Hierzu tragen die milchigen Lösungen der Tanks ebenso bei wie etwa im Video "The Land of the Dead" die schwindelnde Perspektive. Mariele Neudecker ist derzeit in einer Reihe bedeutender Ausstellungen vertreten, darunter Yokohama Triennale, Japan Skulptur Biennale Münsterland, Deutschland "Landskap", Konstmuseum Uppsala, Schweden, "IMAGINATION Romantik", Jenoptik, Jena, Deutschland Im Rahmen dieser Ausstellung wird Mariele Neudecker am 6. The exhibition takes place parallel to the comprehensive solo presentation of Mariele Neudecker's work at Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin. While the presentation at Künstlerhaus Bethanien includes a number of sculptures, photographs and video works by Mariele Neudecker, at the gallery two major video installations will be shown. The video "Another Day" consists of two projections showing a sunrise and a sunset, filmed at two geographically opposite coordinates, on the Azores and in Australia. Thus the beholder can follow the simulataneous rising and setting of the sun - a spectacle he could never experience in nature. "The Land of the Dead" shows in an impressive way a different kind of simultaneous perception. The viewer is confronted with images filmed out of a hot air balloon. They are projected on both floor and ceiling of the gallery, thus facing each other. The camera follows the almost imperceptible rise and the route of the balloon, showing in bird's-eye view the ever shrinking landscape. Slums, backyards, desert, and cultivated fields slowly pass by, gradually minituarizing, so that the beholder loses at the same time the stable view point. Mariele Neudecker's work often deals with the classical subjects of Romantic painting. Dramatic mountain scenes, forests in veils of mist, spectacular sunsets, wild seas are translated into three-dimensional miniature models. These models are installed in tanks that are filled with watery, milky and colourful solutions, transforming the hazy atmospheres into chemical reactions. Mariele Neudecker does not only turn the traditional canvas of Romanticism into a contemporary expression, but also questions processes of perception. Her videos as well as her installations contain and show compressions: air and atmosphere become concrete, materialize. The unambiguity of the perceived is being lost, and the impression of looking into an underwater world arises. The milky solutions that recreate the dim and cloudy atmospheres contribute to this as much as does the dizzying perspective of the video "The Land of the Dead".
