Pollen Dusted, 2004 Plexiglas, Duratrans photo, wood, metal, florescent lights, 28 x 38 x 4 1/2 inches Mason Rader Reflections of a Peeping Tom Dorfman Projects is proud to present "Reflections of a Peeping Tom", a solo exhibition by New York artist Mason Rader. Rader's newest series combines multiple art forms. The six works on exhibition are dimensional wall sculptures. The remarkable variety of materials - metal, glass, wood, paint, mirror, vinyl plastics as well as florescent lights in four of the six works - add a meticulous and mischievous sculptural resonance to Rader's work. The images themselves are funny, sexy, and sometimes ominous. They capture his unique slant on beauty in forms both conventional and surprising. His images, derived from the artist's vast collection of memorabilia, are transformed into a visionary experience through the astonishing juxtaposition of collage, computer manipulation and hand-drawn stencils. There is always a lot for the eye to take in, the mind to consider. Rader's process highlights the exacting nature of craft and construction, resulting in the visual appreciation for form, function and beauty. Working with the organic and the ersatz, Rader proceeds to enliven the visual by incorporating stenciled comments - "what you don't know about flowers, everything shown, nothing explained" - which playfully illuminates the content of his work. Rader's eye has spun a never-ending, sensational, tale of curiosity. The tone of Mason Rader's art ranges from melodramatic to satirical from bawdy to ingenious. Traces of fin-de-siecle and pop art images reside in his work. His imagery, frequently erotic, drawn from both the landscape and human interaction expresses the personality of someone alternately world weary and discovering the world for the first time. It ushers its viewers into a phantasmal space filled with both tension and ease.
