Mattia Bonetti Luhring Augustine is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by furniture designer Mattia Bonetti. Bonetti is well known for his exrtaordinary contribution to contemporary design. His work has become characterized by a unique combination of materials, forms and stylistic influences. His designs and environments are often described as tangible manifestations of a dream. This is Mattia Bonetti's first exhibition in New York and Luhring Augustine's first exhibition of contemporary furniture design. In this exhibition Bonetti will exhibit studies for the furniture as well as twenty new pieces specifically commissioned for the gallery. His new designs continue to cleverly combine primitivism and refinement with function and ornament. In his playful synthesis of opposites he creates a tension between naturalism and the prescriptions of modernism. In many cases he will design complete environments for the unique pieces he creates, inventing a mood for a room that usualy rests between fantasy and reality. Mattia Bonetti was born in 1953 in Lugano, Switzerland. He received his formal training as a designer at the Centro Scolastico per L'Industria Artistica in Lugano. Bonetti has worked on commissions for private individuals and commercial projects for over twenty years. Mattia Bonetti currently lives in Paris. In association with David Gill London.
