Miki Lee
New Abstraction

Miki Lee continues her exploration into pure geometric abstraction with her confluence of line, color and form. As in her previous bodies of work, each large scale oil painting has deftly hand-rendered hard-edged zigzag bands of color where no two colors are repeated. Although clearly paying homage to her earlier style, this new body of work extends far beyond the structured vertical confines of expression to an arena of concentric patterns that are as equally disquieting as they are harmonious. There in lies the brilliance in Ms. Lee's work. Through a cacophony of vivid color and chaotic compositions she arrives at a peaceful and contemplative thesis where the viewer is ushered through a wide range of emotions while enjoying each uniquely delineated and hued canvas.

Miki Lee was born in Seoul Korea, she relocated to Los Angeles as a child. She received her BFA of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994 and received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1997. Shortly after graduation she moved to New York City where she currently resides.
