Als wir den Künstler letztes Jahr trafen und mit ihm die Möglichkeit einer Einzelausstellung diskutierten, war er gerade daran, seine erste Musik-CD zu produzieren und arbeitete an Zeichnungen. Mit neuen Fotos tat er sich schwer. Er schlug daher vor, seine erste Ausstellung bei uns zusammen mit Melanie Bonajo und Filib Schürmann zu machen. Melanie Bonajo studierte mit Tom an der Fotoschule in Rotterdam, Filib Schürmann ist ein mit Tom befreundeter Zeichner. Mit beiden zusammen betreibt Tom Huber die Website d-e-s-a-s-t-e-r.ch. Inzwischen ist Tom Hubers CD fertig geworden und während eines längeren Aufenthaltes in Schottland sind neue Fotos und Zeichnungen entstanden, welche Teil der Ausstellung "Moments of Honesty" sind. Tom Hubers allerneuste Fotos vertrauen auf das Auge und den Augenblick. Sie sind eine Art geplante Snap Shots, welche die Komik und das Groteske im Alltag einbeziehen und in ihrer Unmittelbarkeit nahtlos an seine Zeichnungen anknüpfen. "Momente der Ehrlichkeit" ist auch das Thema von Melanie Bonajo (*1978, lebt in Amsterdam). Melanie Bonajos ästhetische, oftmals ins traumhafte gehende Fotos befassen sich häufig mit Situationen, in denen die Künstlerin als Opfer, als Schutzsuchende oder als Fliehende beteiligt ist. Eine eindrückliche Serie von Arbeiten zeigt Portraits der Künstlerin in Momenten absoluter Verlorenheit und Verzweiflung, ohne den Schutz einer Inszenierung. Filib Schürmanns (*1978, lebt in Luzern) obsessive Zeichnungen sind tägliche Notizen von Gefühlen und Ideen, welche unkontrolliert und unzensuriert aus ihm herausquellen. Nebst diesen oft mit Humor wattierten Empfindungen persönlichster Art zeigt Filib Schürmann grössere, schwarzweisse Schraffurzeichnungen von amorphen Figuren, die direkt seiner Ideenwelt entsprungen sind. When we met the artist this year and discussed a potential solo show, he was in the process of recording his first music cd and was working on drawings. After his success with a body of work called "Best of Forest" and raising expectations, he was struggling with new photos. He therefore suggested doing his first show with us together with Melanie Bonajo and Filib Schürmann. Melanie Bonajo graduated together with Tom Huber from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Rotterdam. Filib Schürmann is an artist friend of Tom's who does drawings and has a following in the comic's scene. Tom, Melanie and Filib run the website d-e-s-a-s-t-e-r.ch together with other artists. In the meantime, Tom Huber has completed his CD and during an extended stay in Scotland this summer has made new photos and drawings which will be part of the exhibition "Moments of Honesty". Tom's new photos rely on his eye and on capturing the exact moment of time. His new work still relies on a snapshot quality and combines the humor and the grotesqueness contained in everyday situations with the intimacy and sensuality of his drawings. "Moments of Honesty" is also the subject matter of Melanie Bonajo's work (*1978, lives in Amsterdam). Melanie Bonajo's beautiful and dream-like photos often capture situations where the artist is involved as a victim or a homeless person looking for shelter. A convincing body of work shows portraits of the artist in stages of utmost despair. Filib Schürmann's (*1978, lives in Luzerne) work are obsessive drawings of his daily fears and thoughts that he puts on paper without trying to control his output. His drawings are funny comments of the ambiguities of life. In addition to these personal, diary-style drawings, Schürmann is showing large ink drawings of invented biomorphic shapes that consist of hundreds of small marks and patterns.
