Damian Ortega: Clay Mountain, 2004 Damián Ortega, Rosalind Nashashibi Over In Click for English text Damián Ortega (*1967) arbeitet wie viele Kunstschaffende seiner Generation in unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen: Seine Arbeit ist ebenso in Skulptur und Installation wie in Fotografie und Video anzusiedeln. Ortega befasst sich mit den politischen und ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen des Transformationsprozesses von Rohstoffen in Handelsgüter, wie er in der industrialisierten Welt auf verschiedensten Ebenen stattfindet. Bis vor Kurzem lebte Ortega in Rio de Janeiro, wo er eine umfangreiche, subjektiv motivierte Untersuchung der Wohnviertel der ärmsten Bevölkerungsschicht durchführte. Seit der letzten Biennale in Venedig findet Ortegas Schaffen auch international Beachtung. Für die Kunsthalle entwickelt er in den hintersten Sälen im Erdgeschoss zwei skulpturale Arbeiten. Rosalind Nashashibi (*1973 in Croydon, UK) arbeitet als Filmemacherin. Die hochtechnisierte Bildentwicklung, wie sie von vielen Kunstschaffenden ihrer Generation gesucht und gepflegt wird, ist nicht ihr Anliegen. Die Mischung aus scheinbaren technischen Unzulänglichkeiten wie Überbelichtungen, die Bewegung der Handkamera, cineastisch anmutende Bildausschnitte ergeben Sequenzen von eigenwilliger Poesie, die auch in Filmstills und Prints zum Tragen kommt. Die Arbeiten begleiten Menschen im öffentlichen Raum und untersuchen deren Verhalten innerhalb eines jeweils spezifischen Kontextes, etwa eines Wohltätigkeits-Bazars oder einer Kletterhalle. Nashashibi gelingt es, durch die kontrastreiche Kombination von Bild und Ton eine neue Lesart alltäglicher Begebenheiten herauszufordern. Rosalind Nashashibi: Park Ambassador, 2004 Filmstill Damián Ortega, Rosalind Nashashibi Over In Damián Ortega (born 1967) uses, like many artists of his generation, different forms of artistic expressive: his work can be categorised as sculpture and installation, but also as photography and video. Ortega strives to come to grips with the political and economic framework conditions involved in the transformation of raw materials into tradeable goods, a process in the industrialised world which takes place at the most varied of levels. Until recently, Ortega lived in Rio de Janeiro where he undertook an extensive, subjectively motivated examination of those quarters where the poorest strata of the population live. Ortega's work has gained international recognition since the last Venice Biennale. He will develop two sculptural works for the rear rooms on the ground floor of the Kunsthalle. Rosalind Nashashibi (born 1973 in Croydon, UK) is a film-maker. She is not interested in the highly technical images sought and cultivated by many artists of her generation. Her mix of apparently technical shortcomings, like over-exposure, the movement of the handheld camera, and frames reminiscent of a cineast, results in sequences imbued with a exceptional poetry which is also tangible in films stills and prints. She and her camera accompany people in the public domain, examining their behaviour within a specific context, for example, a charity bazaar or a climbing hall. Through her contrast-rich combination of image and sound Nashashibi succeeds in teasing a new reading out of everyday phenomena. September 19 - November 14, 2004 |
