Patte Loper
Everything Beautiful is Far Away

Patte Loper continues her narrative paintings depicting a supernatural environment where technology exists without humans, an imaginary world where the animals are the architects and societal consciousness of their planet. This world is evolving and many of the paradigms are beautiful but dysfunctional.

As her characters struggle with developing their new world and sense of self-discovery, it is easy to sympathize with their plight and learning curve. Buildings visually collapse onto themselves causing tension upon their mid-century inspired foundation. These wildly inept modernist edifices could instantly dissolve into baroque piles of architectural form.

The artist states, "I want to believe that painting can describe the impossible, and so by using the conventions of naturalism, I create an otherwise unbelievable world".

The work investigates the intersection between the modernist utopian ideal, its inherent conflict with natural evolution and the eventual collision between these seemingly compatible concepts.
