Pavel Pepperstein "Eyes" Click for English text Die Galerie Kamm freut sich, den russischen Künstler Pavel Pepperstein mit seiner zweiten Einzelausstellung in der Galerie zu präsentieren. Die neue Zeichnungsserie "Eyes" mit dem Untertitel "...little sister is watching you..." thematisiert nach der Serie "political hallucinations" das Auge als das Symbol unserer visuellen Gesellschaft und gleichzeitig als Spiegel der Welt. In der für Pavel Pepperstein typischen Art und Weise analysiert er innere Funktionsweisen der Kultur und Gesellschaft, indem er in seinen farbigen Zeichnungen auf weitere Bilder und Texte der Massenkultur verweist und sie mit der russischen Mythenwelt vernetzt. In der Ausstellung spielt die Imagination und Reflexion von Bildern im Auge eine entscheidende Rolle. Indem Reflexionen ins Innere des Auges dringen und ein Bild innerhalb des Auges zustande kommt, verwandelt das Auge die Welt in ein Bild von der Welt. Ebenso wichtig ist dem Künstler aber auch das Bildnis von Augen: "Bilder von Augen verfolgen mich überall: manchmal fast abstrakt, manchmal sehr realistisch, ich finde sie in Emblemen und auf Postern, sie sehen mich aus dem Fernseher und den Mäuselöchern an. Ich realisierte, dass ein Auge das öffentlichste, dominanteste und omnipräsenteste Symbol in unserer Kultur ist. Sie sagen: Augen sind der Spiegel unserer Seele. Es reicht zu sagen, dass Augen Spiegel sind: die öffentlichsten Spiegel in der Welt. Wir sehen uns in den Augen der anderen, und wenn wir in den Spiegel blicken, können wir uns in unseren eigenen Augen beobachten. Augen betrachten uns überall: Augen von Menschen, Tieren, Insekten...Alles was ich mir vorstellen kann, kann ich in Form einer Reflexion in den Augen zeichnen" (Pavel Pepperstein). The new series of drawings "Eyes" with the subtitle "...little sister is watching you..." after the series "political hallucinations" draws on the motif of the eye as a symbol of our visual society and at the same time as a mirror of the world. In his accustomed manner, Pavel Pepperstein analyses the inner workings of culture and society by referring in his colour drawings to further mass-cultural images and texts, and linking these with Russian myth. In the exhibition, a decisive role is played by the imagination and reflection of images in the eye. While reflections force their way inside the eye and an image comes into being within the eye, the eye converts the world into an image of the world. Just as important for the artist however is the motif of the eye. "Images of eyes follow me everywhere; sometimes almost abstract, sometimes very realistic in emblems and posters. They look at me from TV screens and mouse-holes. I realized that an eye is the most common, dominant and the omnipresent symbol in our culture. They say eyes are the mirror of the soul; it’s enough to say that eyes are mirrors - the most common mirrors in the world. We see ourselves in the eyes of others, and when we look into a looking glass we can observe ourselves in our own eyes.
