Peter Hutchinson wurde 1930 in London geboren und lebt und arbeitet seit 1953 in Provincetown/ Massachusetts. Als einer der Wegbereiter der Land Art ist er in so renommierten Sammlungen wie dem Musée d'Art Moderne/Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, dem Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, dem Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Basel, der National Gallery of Art, Washington und dem Museum of Modern Art in New York vertreten. Nach zahlreichen Einzelausstellungen in den Jahren 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002 und 2005 zeigt die Galerie Bugdahn und Kaimer nun die Serie "Man's Condition" aus dem Jahr 1976. Diese 27teilige Werkgruppe ist ein Unikat und besteht aus 13 fotografischen Diptychen (Format jeweils 102 x 76 cm), von denen der obere Teil eine Farbfotografie und der untere Teil eine schwarz-weiss Fotografie ist, sowie einem Textblatt im Format 28 x 35 cm. Die unteren Fotos sind zusätzlich jeweils mit einem Wort beschriftet, deren Initialen den Titel "Man's Condition" ergeben. Die farbigen Fotografien zeigen die besten Lebensbedingungen des Menschen und die schwarz-weissen die schlechten, mit scheinbaren Verbindungen und Bezügen untereinander - zum Beispiel das Element Wasser benutzend, zeigt ein Diptychon auf dem Farbfoto einen Sonnenaufgang am Meer und das schwarz-weiss Foto einen Wassertank auf dem Dach eines Gebäudes in einem städtischen Slum. Following a whole line of solo exhibitions at Galerie Bugdahn und Kaimer - in 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2005 - the gallery now presents the series "Man's Condition" from 1976. This cycle of twenty-seven parts is a unique piece and consists of 13 photographic diptychs (each panel is 102 x 76 cm / 40 x 30 inches) and an additional text sheet 28 x 35 cm / 11 x 14 inches. The top photos are in color and the bottom photos in black and white. Each part is inscribed with a word, whose initial letters form the title "Man's Condition". The color photos represent the best conditions of man, the lower black and white ones the worst conditions, with relationships apparent between the two - for instance, considering the element water, there is a color photo of the sea at sunrise and below, a black and white photo of a water tower in an urban slum.
