Post Marks

Arabella Lee & Melanie Rose

Transition presents "Post Marks", a collaborative project between artists Arabella Lee and Melanie Rose.

"Post Marks" is the culmination of an intensive drawing project developed over the course of a year (2003) and consisting of more than 700 drawings. These drawings were posted daily between the two artists, and form a fascinating, developing artistic dialogue. Folded and posted, the drawings bear the marks of their journeys with the addresses, stamps and frank marks an integral part of the finished work. The newspaper quality newsprint, which the drawings are on both references their daily news exchange and allows the displayed work to flutter on the wall when viewers pass by.

The images depicted in the drawings are drawn from the multitude of diverse influences that confront contemporary artists everyday. Some are bizarre, some mundane, some personal and many are direct art references, contextualising the work of artists as diverse as Grayson Perry and Henry Moore. The viewer is drawn into this frenetic, information saturated world and becomes both an intimate and voyeurist. These works are part sketch book and part diary - both profound and touchingly personal. The resulting show is a unique insight into a year in the life of two artists.

Arabella Lee and Melanie Rose graduated from Central St Martins MA Fine Art in 2002. Melanie Rose has shown at Art Futures and Sense and Sensibility - Transition 2003. Arabella Lee has had her work featured in the window of Hermes in Bond Street and at Souvenir - Transition 2003. "Post Marks" is their first collaborative work.
