Ridley Howard

Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL) is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Brooklyn-based artist Ridley Howard. For this show, Howard will present a series of new large and small scale paintings.

Ridley Howard's most recent work blends the epic and banal in beautifully painted images of simple interactions. The works casually allude to masculine melodrama or male sentimentality and longing with delicacy and subtle humor. Loosely based on his own relationships, experiences, and imagination, the work functions like a daydream, where memory, longing, and external influences shape a personal fiction.

Howard draws from film, music, illustration and posters, as well as American and European "scene" painting traditions. Artists from Katz and Hopper to Fra Angelico and Piero della Francesca seem to merge into an unexpectedly odd and personal world.

Ridley Howard attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Past work has been exhibited at the EAST International in Norwich, England, curated by Neo Rauch. Howard has received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and The Pollock-Krasner Foundation. This is his first solo show at Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL). He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
