 KT. 06 (girl of the week), 2006 oil on canvas, 50 x 40 cm, 19 3/4 x 15 3/4 inches Slawomir Elsner Panorama Sutton Lane is pleased to announce "Panorama", the first solo exhibition in London of Slawomir Elsner. For this exhibition Elsner has continued along his previous themes of using photographs as the source for his new series. The paintings have taken a new departure from his earlier depictions of architectural and urban scenes by taking inspiration from another media: they are based on illustrations from the 1976 edition of "Panorama", a Polish popular weekly magazine. Elsner has taken the 30 year old imagery - advertisements, news reports and fashion layouts - and transferred them onto canvas along with the consciousness of their time. Slawomir Elsner was born in 1976 in Wodzislaw, Poland and lives and works in Berlin. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kassel in 2002. Elsner has had solo exhibitions at Johnen Gallery, Berlin, Johnen + Schöttle Galerie, Cologne, the Kunsthaus Essen and the Kunstverein Bielefeld. He was also was part of "Sutton Lane in Paris" at Sutton Lane c/o Galerie Ghislaine Hussenot, Paris in June 2005.
