Taylor Davis

Samson Projects is extremely pleased to present new work by sculptor Taylor Davis. We are very proud to represent Taylor Davis and introduce her work worldwide.

"The crafted independence of my sculpture is a wish to invalidate ground, to discredit context; in anger toward and desire for the other objects the ground holds."

Love is obvious, screws tight and extremely deep; joints seamless and crisp. The corresponding parts are perfectly aligned. The knots, slits and reflections reverently stare and oblige worship. Thoughtfully handled simple pain gains a sensual composition albeit rough and ready. Farmer's Daughter: "That country girl has witched your wishes,..", wrote Sappho.

Taylor Davis received her MFA from the Bard College, Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts in 1997. Recent exhibitions include the Whitney Biennial (2004), Triple Candie, NYC, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston and the Green Street Gallery. Recent grants and awards include St. Botolph Foundation Grant (2003) and the Institute of Contemporary Art Artist Prize (2001). Her work is in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art. She is Associate Professor at Massachusetts College of Art since 1999 and co-chair of sculpture at Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.
