 Fuck Revolution I, 2003 mixed media on papaer, 35 cm x 50 cm Tjorg Douglas Beer himmelfahrtskommando Click for English text Das Werk von Tjorg Douglas Beer (geb. 1973 in Lübeck) ist ein provisorisch montiertes Universum politischer Fussnoten, ästhetischer Versatzstücke und sprachlicher Hilfskonstruktionen. Mit Collagen aus Plastikfolie, motorisierten Aluminium-Papp-Installationen und Sperrholz-Gemälden knüpft er ein reichhaltiges Netz aus Bezügen, das von sinnentleerter Gesellschaftsrhetorik, über archaische Computerästhetik, bis hin zu klassischen Themen der Kunstgeschichte reicht. Kriegsschauplätze, Reiterstandbilder und Ahnenportraits werden in vermeintlich harmlose, naiv-trashige Szenarien übersetzt. Doch das kindliche Chaos hat einen morbiden Kern: In den fröhlichen Figurenformationen wird zerstört, gemetzelt, gefoltert und gestorben. Wo sich die gegnerischen Parteien grimmig in die Augen starren oder mit Bombenattrappen aufeinander losgehen, wird die spielerische Inszenierung plötzlich zum Indiz ernster gesellschaftlicher Schieflagen. Für seine Ausstellung bei Arndt & Partner Zürich hat der Künstler die Installation "himmelfahrtskommando" entwickelt, die sich über mehrere Galerieräume bis in den Aussenraum erstreckt. Tjorg Douglas Beer stellte bisher u.a. im Hamburger Kunstverein (2006), im Kunsthaus Hamburg (2005), im Contemporary Art Center Kopenhagen (2004) und im Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo, Japan (2002), aus. Using collages of plastic foil, motorised aluminium and cardboard installations and plywood paintings he knits together a rich mesh of relationships which range from a social rhetoric emptied of meaning, to an archaic computer aesthetic, to classical themes of art history. The theatres of war, equestrian statues and ancestral portraits are translated into supposedly innocuous, naively trashy scenarios. However, there is a sinister core to this child-like chaos: within the joyful figural groups there is destruction, butchery, torture and death. As the adversaries fiercely stare each other out, or go at each other with dummy bombs, the playful scene suddenly becomes an indication of serious social collapse. For his exhibition at Arndt & Partner Zürich, the artist has created the installation "himmelfahrtskommando" (ascension commando), which extends over several rooms in the gallery, and protrudes into the outside area.
