Yuri Masnyj
On our black rainbow

Sutton Lane is pleased to announce Yuri Masnyj's first solo exhibition in the UK.

The bizarrely organised interiors constructed by Masnyj in earlier drawings have been broken apart by a strong and violent unknown force. Fragments of 20th century art, design and furniture objects float in atmospheric clouds of accumulated debris, eventually bursting apart as they explode or gravitate into abysmal structures. The fragments, both abstract and representational, are drawn in thin graphite lines which break, curve, and come apart as the objects do. In one moment the line might delineate a recognizable form, yet simultaneously continue into an abstract gesture. Gestural mark making and expressive lines are used in combination with mechanical drawing techniques.

Yuri Masnyj, born in 1976, lives and works in New York. His work was included in "International Paper - Drawings by Emerging Artists at the UCLA Hammer Museum, LA in 2002. He has had his first solo show with Metro Pictures, New York, last January and will be part of a group exhibition at David Zwirner, New York, at the end of June.

Exhibition: 23 June - 31 July 2004
Gallery Hours: Tue-Fri 10 am - 6 pm, Sat 11 am - 4.30 pm
