 Untitled (048J) Yves Oppenheim New Paintings Click for English text Die Galerie Max Hetzler zeigt neue Gemälde von Yves Oppenheim in dem Galerieraum in der Holzmarktstrasse. In seinem in vier grossformatige Tableaus gegliederten Ensemble "Untitled 048J" widmet sich Yves Oppenheim gänzlich einer abstrakten Formensprache, deren zentrales Stilmittel Farbe ist. Das Hauptanliegen von Yves Oppenheim in seinen komplexen Farbkompositionen, die sich spielerisch durchweben und sich teilweise überlagern, ist es, "ein Organisationssystem der Farbe" zu finden. So werden leuchtende Farben von opak bis transparent als abstrakte, entweder sinnlich kurvige, oder geometrische, rechteckige Formen auf die Leinwand aufgetragen. Dabei setzt die Wahrnehmung des vierteiligen Ensembles als Ganzes nicht nur die der Farbkomposition voraus, sondern ebenfalls die der Zeit als alle vier Gemälde verbindendes dynamisches Prinzip. Es entsteht so eine bei erster Betrachtung lineare Geschichte, die von gewundenen Formen und leuchtenden Farben von einem Gemälde zum anderen erzählt wird. Dabei hört aber die Geschichte nicht bei ihrem augen-scheinlichen Endpunkt im vierten Gemälde auf, sondern regt eine Rückkehr an. Hierdurch entsteht ein Wechselspiel von Gemälde zu Gemälde, welches die Linearität des Ensembles durchbricht. Denn darum geht es in diesen neuen Werken von Yves Oppenheim: um ein Spiel mit Harmonie, vor allem aber um die Sprengung dieser harmonischen Farbordnung, um eine Erzählung, aber darüberhinaus um das durch Wiederholung erzeugte Durchbrechen von linearer Zeit. Dem Leitmotiv der Dekonstruktion von Farbharmonie und Erzählung entsprechend, sprengen abstrakte Partien in schwarz und weiss die Farbordnung. In diesen wie hingegossen, flächig aufgetragenen Formen kommt die Materialität des künstlerischen Schaffens zum Ausdruck. Dies ist die dritte Einzelausstellung von Yves Oppenheim in der Galerie Max Hetzler. Der 1948 in Madagaskar geborene Künstler lebt in Berlin und Paris. Seit den 80er Jahren nimmt er regelmässig an internationalen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen teil. Arbeiten von ihm befinden sich in den Sammlungen des Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, des Centre Pompidou, Paris, und des Carré d'Art, Nîmes. In the work "Untitled 048J", composed of four paintings of large format, Yves Oppenheim deals exclusively with an abstract formal language, whose central stylistic device is colour. The main concern of Yves Oppenheim in his complex colour compositions, which interweave and partially overlap, is to find "a system for the organization of colour". Thus luminous colours from opaque to transparent are applied on the canvas in either sensuously curvilinear or geometrical-rectangular forms. But the right perception of the four part painting implicates not solely to visualise the colour composition, but also to perceive time as a connective principle between the four paintings. At first sight a linear story emerges, which is told by the winding forms and the luminous colours from one canvas to the other. The narration, however, does not end at its apparent final point at the fourth canvas, but invites the viewer to return. That's how an interplay between the four paintings is constructed, which breaks through the linearity of the whole and confers each canvas its own identity. This is what Yves Oppenheim is outlining in his new work: a play with harmony, but above all, a deconstruction of the order of colours, a narration, but beyond this, a blowing up of linear time through repetition. Corresponding to the leitmotif of deconstruction of the colour system and the narration, abstract curvilinear forms in black and white errupt into the colour harmony. These forms, that appear as if poured broadly on the surface, indicate the materiality of the painting process. This is Yves Oppenheim's third solo exhibition at Max Hetzler gallery. Yves Oppenheim, born 1948 in Madagascar, lives and works in Berlin and Paris. Since the 1980's he has participated regularly in international solo and group exhibitions.
