Hierbei ergeben sich ungeahnte, spannende Einklänge wie auch pointierte und kunsthistorisch provokante Reibungen, die eurozentrierte Denkmodelle mitunter ins Wanken bringen. Doch steht das Miteinander der Kunstwerke im Vordergrund, nicht deren Gegeneinander. Die zahlreichen Arbeiten aus dem reichen Fundus beider Daros-Sammlungen dienen als Denkanstoss für den Betrachter, sowohl die spezifischen Qualitäten wie auch die Gemeinsamkeiten der Sammlungen und ihre kulturellen Hintergründe besser kennen und verstehen zu lernen. Jahrhunderts wie auch durch Länder und Kontinente. Ikonen des Kunstmarktes treffen dabei auf hierzulande noch weitgehend unbekannte Künstler. Spielerisch reihen sich Werkgruppen unterschiedlicher Thematik aneinander und bilden ein Netzwerk, das immer wieder Überraschungen für den Betrachter bereithält, wobei die Werke selbst in ihren wechselnden Konstellationen das Tempo und die Marschrichtung bestimmen. Sie umfasst etwa 280 Werke von 30 Künstlern aus Europa und den USA, die in den vergangenen 50 Jahren geschaffen wurden. Die Daros-Latinamerica Collection wurde im Jahr 2000 gegründet. Sie umfasst etwa 1000 Werke von 100 Künstlern aus Lateinamerika, ebenfalls aus den vergangenen 50 Jahren. Works in a wide variety of media and from cultures in the West and Latin America have been brought together in thoughtfully selected juxtapositions. Unexpected and exciting points of contact as well as provocative art historical contrasts will unsettle ingrained Eurocentric thinking. However, the emphasis is on what these works share rather than what divides them. This thought-provoking presentation from the rich holdings of the two Daros Collections will draw attention to the specific qualities and similarities of both collections and will enhance the appreciation of their respective cultural histories. "Face to Face" takes viewers on a journey through the history of art in the second half of the 20th century, and across countries and continents. Icons of the art world meet up with artists still largely unknown in Europe. Playful sequences of works grouped by different themes form a network of unexpected surprises, while the ever-changing constellations of the works themselves set the pace and point the way.
