© Maria Finn DK - A (subjective) panoramic view Gitte Villesen, Maria Finn, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Ann Lislegaard, Lisa Strömbeck, Henrik Plenge Jakobsen, Peter Land Since two years, the Ecole Supérieure d'Art of Perpignan decided to present on a regular basis group-shows, that pretend to function as "panoramic views" of the artistic activity in one particular region or country of Europe. After touring from Switzerland, Holland to Flanders, we present this time a review of contemporary art produced in Danemark. As usual, the exhibition pretends to confront our public with an eclectic vision of the Danish art-scene. On the other hand this particular exhibition, entitled "DK" is a "première" for the city of Perpignan. Instead of receiving our visitors in the three places where we usually present the selected works, we invite them to discover certain pieces, installed in other, surprising settings. Choosing the Espace Aquatique swimming-pool of Moulin-à-vent and the Casa Xanxo as first embassador-spaces, we want to make a first try-out to see how contemporary art can be integrated in the everyday life of our city. The main piece presented in the Halle au Poisson is a video-documentary by Gitte Villesen, presented in the Wiener Secession in Vienna. It's a kind of "hommage" to Ingeborg, the "Busker Queen". She's a fascinating old lady, curator of an incredible museum, dedicated to intelligent rats. Her museum is closed for the moment, because of problems with local institutions. But thanks to Gitte Villesen's film, it will (virtually) return to life here in Perpignan. Maria Finn (whose drawings were published by the trend-setting french magazine Purple Prose) will also exhibit her "Summer games" in the Halle. Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen's videos will be shown at the swimming-pool of Moulin-à-vent. Very often she works in close relationship with the members of exotic (Nordic/Philipinean) family, using them as actors or stand-ins. The historical building of Casa Xanxo will no doubt be an interesting background to go to discover the poetical work of Ann Lislegaard, mixing sound and light. In the Gallery of the Art School, the installation "resting place" of Lisa Strömbeck invites the public to escape from the hectic urban life and to discover an intimate space, where one can quietly sleep, surrounded by pets. One of Henrik Plenge Jakobsen's emblematic mural paintings states: "Everything is wrong". It is a pessimistic analysis of our society, spoiled by industry and getting quickly more and more anonymous and inhuman. His answer (for this exhibition) will be a new monumental painting, explaining his personal vision on actuality. But no doubt the clowneske video of Peter Land will make everybody smile again. The artist himself plays in a short slapstick-movie the role of a classical musician who makes himself ridiculous on the scene. Two of the participating artists (Maria Finn and Lilibeth Cuenca) will travel to Perpignan to work during some days with the students of our school.
