Oil on canvas, 60 x 48 inches
the lights blink on and off
Marvelli Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its new exhibition space with "the lights blink on and off," the solo show of American artist Janine Iversen. The exhibition will feature ten new large paintings.
Iversen's paintings contain intensely personal imagery, often tinged with introspective mood, in highly inventive environments. Eschewing photographic references she creates portraits, still-lifes and landscapes from life and imagination.
Her paintings convey lusciousness and energy with the use of a brilliant palette and fluid, daring brushstrokes. The energy and richness of her brushwork, and her concern with the formal qualities of the painting, is such that often it can be appreciated as a pure painterly abstraction. With their active surface, Iversen's paintings show a direct pleasure in the process of painting itself as they reach a sensitive balance between figuration and abstraction.
This will be Janine Iversen's first solo exhibition.
