Mont Blanc

Lucas Schoormans Gallery is pleased to present "Mont Blanc", a new exhibition of large scale photographs by Los Angeles based artist Kathleen Johnson.

Kathleen Johnson's work investigates fantastic landscapes based on the miraculous, yet often overlooked spaces of everyday life. Her ongoing "Pool" series imagines a lost Atlantis architecture emerging below the surface of the ubiquitous Southern Californian back yard swimming pool.

In her second solo exhibition at Lucas Schoormans Gallery, the Mont Blanc triptych depicts a new sculptural form growing in place of the pool steps. The three chromogenic prints mounted on aluminum reveal subtle changes in composition, light and surface pattern across this hybrid structure.

Johnson received a BFA from Otis Art Institute and an MFA from the University of Southern California. Recent projects include "The Minded Swarm" at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, a multi-year project with Taalman Koch Architecture for High Desert Test Sites, and group shows in Los Angeles and Tokyo. Upcoming projects include a photographic landscape survey based on her 2004 residency at the Mars Desert Research Station, a Mars analog site in Southern Utah.

Exhibition: July 6 - August 11, 2006
Gallery hours: Mon-Fri 10am - 6pm (Summer hours)
