Guilherme 2, 2004 30 x 40" (76.2 x 101.6 cm) Marcelo Krasilcic Love From My Eyes Blow de la Barra gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new photographs by Marcelo Krasilcic. Marcelo Krasilcic was born in Brasil in 1969. He has lived in New York for the last 16 years. During the past decade, his sensually charged photography has acquired him a cult following. For "Love From My Eyes" at Blow de la Barra, his first exhibition in London, Krasilcic presents intimate images of work developed during the last couple of years: his Father in underwear embodying geometric positions, and similar postures adopted by friends and lovers who share their intimacy in their everyday surroundings. Parallel echoes are found in less figurative photographs: empty interiors waiting for the appearance of the absent body, abstract sculptures in the parks of Sao Paulo, the changing geometrical pattern created by shadows cast on a wall, and the organic arrangements of a group of balloons floating in the sky. In revealing the other, Krasilcic's gaze is not that of the sexual objectification of the body, instead his emphasis is on the pleasure of sharing - liberating the body of repression, while letting it be at the same time both playful and vulnerable. In an era where the aesthetic of snapshot photography has become an artistic norm, Krasilcic plays with the language of the everyday by bringing back to photography concerns on structure, form, shadow, light, and organisation that formed part of the language of the pioneers of artistic photography of the XX century - among them the work of Edward Weston, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, and Geraldo de Barros. Marcelo Krasilcic's work has been exhibited worldwide, participating in key group shows such as "Chic Clics" (2002) at The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; "Elysian Fields" (2000) curated by Elein Fleiss and Olivier Zahm at the Centre Pompidou, Paris and "The Garden of Forking Paths" (1998) curated by Octavio Zaya at the Kunstforeningen, Copenhagen. Working in-between the fields of fashion and art photography, Marcelo's work has appeared in several magazines, including Vogue Homme International, Visionaire, 10, Arena Homme Plus, Purple, ID, Dazed and Confused, Self Service, Big, Fantastic Man, Butt and Another Magazine. His art film "Guaruja, a Wonderful Movie", which he wrote and co-directed with Gisela Domschke, explores the sexual relationship of a couple, interpreted by four actors, with each scene bringing together a different pair of actors as sexual playmates. "Guaruja" premiered in New York, London, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo during the Autumn of 2005.
