Zachary Wollard
Paintings

Massimo Audiello is pleased to present the first one-man show of Zachary Wollard.

Zachary Wollard studied literature at Columbia University in New York and focused primarily on poetry. Writing poetry was his first vocation although a change of luck brought him to be interested in visual work. Practically, he taught himself to paint. The result has been a very vibrant, eclectic and visionary body of work, which constitutes this first one-man show.

Although Wollard has moved from literature to paintings, poetry has never left his heart. It is the concept of poet as someone listening to the sound of things that is the best key to analyze and understand his work.

An enchanted attitude permeates all of Wollard's body of work and it is not unusual to find a personage in his work as a kind of self-substitute usually entranced in the environment. His paintings span stylistically from figurative narrative to freer abstract elements. The techniques he uses as well vary from more graphic, calligraphic elements to more textured, pasty surfaces.

This blending of abstraction often derived from scientific sources together with the figurative, narrative elements with historical quotations and oneiric visions create the complex passages of a dreamer mind.

A variety of topics spanning from war to birth, from archeology to personal history, from surrealism to pop, clashes together creating a variegated tapestry where the range of interests seem to be equilibrated by a calm, contemplative sensibility.
