message salon präsentiert Johanna Unzueta, Diego Fernández & Felipe Mujica (Chile/NYC) Dispersed Pieces of Something Bevor es im Dezember im Lokal am Rigiplatz wirklich zu Ende geht, präsentiert Esther Eppstein im message salon für einmal internationale Künstlerfreunde. Diego Fernández (1973, Santiago de Chile) und Felipe Mujica (1974, Santiago De Chile) haben in Santiago von 1997 bis 2000 als Gründungs-mitglieder die "Galeria Chilena" betrieben, einen der ersten "artist run spaces" in Chile nach dem Ende der Diktatur. Die "Galeria Chilena" hat 1998 im Swiss-Institut NYC gemeinsam mit dem message salon ausgestellt. Im März 2005 hat Esther Eppstein die Künstler an der International Conference of Independent Art Spaces (EIEI) in Valparaiso, Chile, einer internationalen Konferenz mit Ausstellungen und Symposien, wiedergetroffen und daraufhin nach Zürich eingeladen (www.hoffmannshouse.org/eiei/index.htm). Die beiden Künstler und die Künstlerin Johanna Unzueta (1974, Santiago de Chile) teilen den selben Hintergrund und sind Freunde seit ihren gemeinsamen Schultagen in Santiago de Chile. Sie haben mit der "Galeria Chilena" in verschiedenen Lokalitäten Ausstellungen organisiert und in weiteren, auch internationalen Ausstellungen ihre Arbeiten gezeigt. Seit fünf Jahren leben Diego Fernández, Felipe Mujica und Johanna Unzueta in New York. Sie machen Kunst und Musik, und sie streben in der Metropole neben der Brotarbeit und dem täglichen Alltagskampf eine Kunstkarriere an. Diego Fernández, Felipe Mujica und Johanna Unzuenta suchen während ihres Aufenthaltes in Zürich den Kontakt und das Gespräch mit Kunst- und Musikschaffenden aus Zürich. Sie bauen während einer Woche im message salon eine Installation auf, die die langjährige Freundschaft und ihre Kollaboration als Künstler durch Musik, Performance, Malerei, Video und Skulptur in Szene setzt. "Tazos" (Fernandez & Mujica) präsentiert die neue Vinyl-Platte "Frota-Frota". Am Donnerstag 29. September, 20 Uhr, findet im message salon ein öffentliches Gespräch mit den drei Künstlern statt. Sie sprechen über ihre künstlerische Arbeit, über die Geschichte von "Galeria Chilena" und ihre Uebersiedlung nach NYC. Die Künstler werden von Arthur Miranda, Esther Eppstein und weiteren Gästen aus der Zürcher Kunstszene befragt. Das Publikum ist herzlich eingeladen, sich ins Gespräch einzubringen (in englisch/spanisch). Im message salon bietet sich also die aussergewöhnliche Gelegenheit mit junger Kunst und jungen Künstlern aus Lateinamerika in Kontakt zu kommen und mit ihnen ihre erste Ausstellungseröffnung in der Schweiz zu feiern! Diego Fernández & Felipe Mujica: Tazos Sculpture by Johanna Unzueta "Dispersed Pieces of Something" at message salon, Zurich, by Diego Fernández, Johanna Unzueta and Felipe Mujica This exhibition aims to work and discuss the notion of collaboration. The artists will produce an installation including performance, sculpture, video, paintings and Tazos, an improvisational musical project that Fernández and Mujica have been randomly working on since 1995. The first vinyl compilation by Tazos, "Frota-Frota", will be released on the occasion of the opening. Johanna Unzueta works around the idea of costume as sculpture, sculpture as an integral part of the body (or viceversa). As another way to combine and integrate the works, during the performance by Tazos, artists will be wearing sculptural costume designs by Johanna. Her work will affect the performance and the performance will affect how her work is perceived. This is how "Dispersed Pieces of Something" aims to become an active space where the references and limits between its parts will become blurry and confused but also fruitful in new interpretations and readings. The idea is that each gesture will loose its personal aura or individuality to become part of a collaborative way to produce and exhibit. Having studied art in the same school in Santiago de Chile the three artists share a sociopolitical background and although their practices are different, they live up to a collaborative entrepreneur spirit. A conversation will be held on the 29th around the role of collaboration between artists, with a slide presentation of Galeria Chilena, an artist run space from Santiago de Chile the three artists have been involved with, and the presence of the local interviewing mind of Arthur Miranda. He has also participated in the Independent Curators International traveling exhibition "Painting Zero Degree". He has received the Chilean government Grant Fondart in 1999 and 2004, the Pollock Krasner Grant in 2002 and participated in the artist in residency program Gasworks in London in 2004. Mujica is also founder of the artist run space Galería Chilena. The three artists are participating in a forthcoming show titled "?" to be held in a still undecided location of the Design District of Miami, in late November 2005.
